Dry Point  is a type of engraving where the artist incises a metal plate, traditionally a cooper plate, with an awl or shape object. Ink is then pushed into the groves (and the raised surface is polished clean of ink). A damp sheet of paper is placed over the plate. Using intense pressure applied from a press, the paper is forced into the groves, lifting the ink. Thus, the image is transferred onto the paper. Art historically, Rembrandt and Dürer are two of the most famous artists who utilized the dry point method.
