Pastel. Pastel sticks or crayons consist of pure powdered pigment combined with an inert binder. Pastels are created by grinding pigments onto a paste with water and gum binder and then rolled or pressed into sticks.

  Artists & Pastel

Dwyer, Charles Jr.

Dwyer is extremely spontaneous in his drawings, he lets the artwork tell him where to go rather than tell the art where it should go, so basically nothing is planned. He starts by creating colored abstract backgrounds, then collages images he has cut out from magazines of the 30's and 50's. This is the point where he often uses the pastel, letting the figure emerge from the abstracted background as he draws.
